Illinois Community Colleges and University of Illinois Collaboration
At the Chez Veterans Center, we extend support to military-connected students attending an Illinois Community College to assist in their enrollment and transition to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In collaboration with community colleges, we focus on:
- Strengthening our relationships with Illinois community colleges by providing advocacy and guidance for military-connected students aspiring to attend the UIUC.
- Presenting best practices that other institutions can apply at their campuses.
- Establishing a supportive network of peers and mentors to ease transition and foster community.
For example, the Parkland Pathway Program is a dual enrollment program for students who are interested in beginning their college experience at Parkland and later transferring to Illinois. Priority is granted to students who can bring diversity to campus, including those who have veteran status. The program allows qualified student veterans to enroll at Parkland College and attend up to 5 credit hours each semester at Illinois, receiving personalized academic counseling and opportunities to participate in many campus-based activities exclusive to Illinois students. Upon successful completion of transfer requirements, students are guaranteed admission to Illinois. Student veterans enrolled at Parkland through this program are welcome to register with the Center and utilize our programs and services.
