Chez Veterans Center Scholarship Policy

The Chez Veterans Center (CVC) is dedicated to improving the lives and well-being of veterans, service members, and military-connected students as they navigate higher education and beyond. This includes, but is not limited to the following:  

  •  Supporting educational advancement
  • Removing financial barriers
  •  Empowering military-connected students
  •  Fulfilling holistic needs
  •  Fostering donor relationships

To further our mission, the CVC has established a Scholarship Program, the following policies have been established:

  1. Donor requirements as stated in fund agreements will be followed.
  2. Full-time enrollment in a regular degree program is required to receive a scholarship unless a donor states otherwise.

Scholarship Priorities

Scholarship priorities should be reviewed at least every 5 years to ensure that the priorities are consistent with campus, and Center, goals as well as the strategic plan.  The following scholarship priorities will be taken into account when making scholarship determinations:

  1. Academic standing
  2. Financial need
  3. Community involvement
  4. Leadership experience(s)
  5. Personal circumstances

Scholarship Procedures

The following scholarship procedures have been established:

  1. All scholarship funds should be disbursed centrally through established university and College of AHS procedures.  Scholarships will not be paid directly to the student, but to the student account.
  2. Scholarships should be awarded by October 1st, unless otherwise specified.
  3. Scholarship letters and communications may encourage students to express their appreciation for the scholarship by writing a thank-you note to the donor. 
  4. The University of Illinois Foundation is the university authority on interpreting donor requirements contained in a fund agreement.
