Wade Beasley’s time at the University of Illinois played a significant role in shaping his career as an Air Force Pilot. He fondly remembers his sophomore year, when he had the honor of participating in the honor guard for the opening of the Chez Veterans Center. The center grew into a place of connection for him, where ROTC cadets could engage with residents and gain invaluable advice. It was a community that Wade deeply appreciated.
In 2018, as a senior in Air Force ROTC, Wade faced a major challenge: a foot and ankle surgery just months before commissioning. The timing was difficult, especially with his apartment lacking an elevator and winter conditions making mobility a struggle. Thankfully, the Chez Veterans Center stepped in, offering Wade a place to stay with his cadet friend, Will Smith, while he recovered. This support was essential in helping him heal and continue his journey as a pilot.
Wade’s story is a powerful reminder of the importance of community and the lasting impact of kindness when facing life’s challenges.
