On February 10, the Chez Veterans Center was buzzing with energy, laughter, and echoes of people shouting “¡Lotería!” We teamed up with the amazing members of the Hispanic Student Nursing Association for a night of Mexican bingo, and it was so much fun!

If you haven’t played before, Lotería is like bingo, but with cards that have colorful images instead of numbers. Each player marks off a picture on their card when it’s called, and the first one to get a row wins! It’s simple and fun, especially when people get super excited and call out “Lotería!”
But what made the night even sweeter was the treats! The air was filled with the warm aroma of pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread). Moreover, there were different varieties to try, from conchas to cuernitos. These treats paired perfectly with the hot chocolate we provided and helped everyone feel cozy as we played.
And the prizes! We handed out beautiful hand-painted clay mugs to our winners that gave the night a special and cultural touch. Plus, who doesn’t love another mug for their collection at home?
Lotería Night wasn’t just about winning, though. The whole event was an amazing celebration of culture and friendship. Whether you were there to eat, play, or just hang out with friends, everyone was having a great time. It was heartwarming to see new and old faces come together to celebrate.
Huge shoutout to the Hispanic Student Nursing Association for partnering with us to make this night possible! You all brought so much energy and warmth to the event, and we can’t wait to team up again in the future.
If you missed out on this one, don’t worry! There are more work-study events on our calendar. Keep an eye out for future events at the Chez Veterans Center on our social medias or our newsletter—there’s always something exciting coming up!
Until next time, ¡nos vemos!
