On October 25, one of our work study students, Daniel, hosted an engaging budgeting event to give advice on how to take control of your finances. Students gathered at the Chez Veterans Center and enjoyed pizza while Daniel, a business major, gave a general overview of budgeting techniques.

We kicked off the event with different ways to budget, such as the 50/30/20 method, snowballing, and zero-based budgeting. Daniel also showed an example spreadsheet that demonstrated net income, and how he would recommend breaking up this income to pay for things like rent, car payments, etc. Moreover, his demonstration importantly showed that you can still have money for general spending while budgeting.

All the participants were extremely happy with the event, and found this information helpful, especially with the transition from military to student living that many people are working through. As we wrapped up the event, it was clear that understanding budgeting is not just about balancing numbers—it’s about creating a fulfilling and stress-free financial future. Stay tuned for our next work study event!
