To celebrate the beginning of a new academic year, the Chez Veterans Center staff came together to welcome new and returning military-connected students to campus! Their annual Kick-Off event, held on August 29, 2024, was a tremendous success, establishing a positive tone for the months ahead.
This event featured a delicious dinner from one of the best barbeque restaurants in Champaign-Urbana: The Black Dog Smoke and Ale House. Community members from diverse military backgrounds were able to eat and chat in a warm, friendly environment. As the night progressed, the Chez Veterans Center staff each introduced themselves and the vital roles they play at the Center. They expressed how their number one priority is to the military community at UIUC, and if any student has any concerns, the staff will always be at the Center to assist them. Additionally, students were able to converse with representatives from the Financial Aid department, ensuring all questions were answered before the inevitable stresses of the school year begin! A few students that attended wanted to share their opinions of the event.
Emily R. says, “The Kick-Off at the Chez was a great way to welcome new and familiar faces to the military-connected community on campus. As a military-connected student, this community is so important to me, and the kick-off was a great way to connect with others.”
Jacob M. says, “Meeting new students and catching up with my friends was great. I’m looking forward to other events the Chez has this year, like the Work Study social events. As we march into this new school year, let’s conquer every challenge together, one mission at a time!”
Overall, the 2024 Chez Veteran’s Center Fall Kick-Off was a wonderful start to the new academic year. We are excited to connect with more students and eager to cultivate the Chez Veterans Center community. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead filled with learning, growth, and shared success!
