For partners Matthew and Sophia Thery, the Chez Veterans Center was more than just a resource—it was a cornerstone of their journey at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Sophia, a 2023 graduate, and Matthew, set to graduate in 2025, both found a sense of belonging and support that extended beyond academics. “The Chez provided a community that helped me navigate social, academic, professional, and personal aspects of my life all in one place,” Sophia shared. “The support I consistently felt truly enhanced my time at UIUC.”
As military-connected students, they benefited from the welcoming environment, career resources, and mentorship opportunities the center provided. The Chez Veterans Center not only helped them succeed individually but also strengthened their journey together. Whether through academic guidance, networking opportunities, or a place to connect with fellow students, the center played a crucial role in their university experience.
Now, as Sophia advances in her career and Matthew approaches graduation, they both carry with them the relationships and lessons they built at the Chez Veterans Center. Their story is a testament to the power of community and the lasting impact of a strong support system.
